RELATED: Genshin Impact: The Best Team Compositions For Thoma
Dependable and loyal to the player character, Thoma makes a great addition to a team, as well. In order to excel in combat, he’ll definitely want to ascend to the max level and upgrade his talents. Here’s everything needed to do both of those things.
Leveling Materials
Between each ascension level, Thoma needs quite a bit of EXP. Here’s a full breakdown:
In total, Thoma (and every other Genshin Impact character) needs over 8 million EXP. To reach this total, the following combination of EXP materials can be used:
Thoma Ascension Items
Thoma is a Pyro character, so he’ll use Agnidus Agate when he ascends. Additionally, he needs some Treasure Hoarder drops, Smoldering Pearls from the Pyro Hypostasis, and some Fluorescent Fungus, an Inazuma specialty that grows on Tsurumi Island.
Gemstones - Where to Find Agnidus Agate
The Pyro gemstone, Agnidus Agate, can be purchased at the Mondstadt and Liyue souvenir shops or obtained by completing daily commissions for the Adventurer’s Guild. However, some bosses will also drop Agnidus Agate:
Pyro Regisvine Pyro Hypostasis Primo Geovishap Azhdaha Andrius La Signora
Enemy Drop - Where to Find Treasure Hoarder Insignias
Treasure Hoarder Insignias, as well as their higher-tier counterparts, Silver Raven Insignias and Golden Raven Insignias, are dropped by, fittingly, Treasure Hoarders. Higher-level Treasure Hoarders can drop better and better insignias, as follows:
Any level: Treasure Hoarder Insignias Level 40+: Silver Raven Insignias Level 60+: Golden Raven Insignias
Treasure Hoarders can be found basically anywhere in Teyvat, but they are found most frequently in Inazuma, around the base of Dragonspine, and near ruins in Liyue.
Boss Drop - How to Get Smoldering Pearls
The Pyro Hypostasis is one of two Hypostases (the other being the Hydro Hypostasis) that calls Inazuma home. This one, also known as Ayin, is found on Kannazuka.
Local Specialty - Where to Find Fluorescent Fungus
Every character uses a local specialty in their ascension, and Thoma’s is the strange Fluorescent Fungus found around Tsurumi Island. He’s currently the only character that uses it, strangely enough.

In order to find Fluorescent Fungus, players will need to work their way through the fog on Tsurumi during the quest A Particularly Particular Author.
Unfortunately, there are no shops that sell Fluorescent Fungus, and it can’t currently be grown in the Serenitea Pot.
Thoma Talent Materials
Like all playable characters, Thoma has three upgradeable talents. To level these talents up, he’ll need the following materials:
Talent Books - Transience
Four characters use the Transience series of talent books: Thoma, Sangonomiya Kokomi, Yoimiya, and the Traveler. They can be obtained from the Violet Court domain on Mondays, Thursdays, and Sundays.
Trounce Materials and Crowns of Insight
Thoma’s talent upgrades require Hellfire Butterflies, which are dropped by La Signora when defeated in her weekly Trounce challenge.
Crowns of Insight are rare items that are used to maximize a talent, upgrading it from level 9 to level 10. They’re rewarded during some time-limited events, but a few can be earned by making offerings to the Sacred Sakura in Inazuma and the Frostbearing Tree on Dragonspine.
Genshin Impact is available on PC, PS4, PS5, and mobile devices, with a Nintendo Switch version in development.
