The newly surfaced video was posted by Marvel Entertainment shortly after uploading the latest Thor: Love and Thunder trailer showing Thor trying to rally his people for the fight that’s coming their way, though not as successfully as the Asgardian god might hope. It also doesn’t play lightly into Hemsworth’s feelings over playing such a beloved character for more than a decade, the same role that’s helped him become one of the most recognizable actors in the world.

One common theme for Tessa Thompson and the film’s two leads, not to mention Waititi, is just how much bigger of an adventure this is in terms of scale for Thor, raising the bar even further past what was achieved in Thor: Ragnarok. Waititi in particular seems to have had a blast on the movie’s set and the director’s joyful mood is evidenced by his collection of graphic clothing that some fans might be able to figure out despite Marvel’s blur effects. As the man himself claims, Thor: Love and Thunder is not “afraid to be flamboyant” and campy.

In the end, Waititi’s description of Thor: Love and Thunder as a “crazy space adventure” definitely fits the tone set by the film’s trailers. Still, some Marvel fans might be wary of that after Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Also worth mentioning for the director is the role played by MCU newcomer Christian Bale, whom he characterizes as just the kind of “monstrous” villain Marvel movies could use.

Thor: Love and Thunder is gearing up to be another Marvel Studios blockbuster hit after what has arguably been the worst year-over-year period for the MCU considering the tame performance of Black Widow, Eternals, and to a lesser degree Shang-Chi and the Legend of The Ten Rings, with only Doctor Strange living up to his full potential once Sony’s Spider-Man is factored out of the equation. Nevertheless, reception for the Doctor Strange sequel was mixed, and that’s a trapping Waititi will be keen to avoid.

Waititi is largely credited with turning Thor: Ragnarok into one of the MCU’s most cherished movies after the superhero’s first couple of films were often left on the lower end of most Marvel rankings. So the promise of something even bigger this time around will have many excited over Thor: Love and Thunder’s potential.

Thor: Love and Thunder will release in theaters on July 8, 2022.
