While having Thor Odinson and Jane Foster fighting together on the big screen could have proved boring from a visual perspective, Waititi made sure to give them both some unique weapons so that their fighting styles were different. Seeing them combine their attacks during the big action sequences is a real treat, with the action being so strong that it is hard not to think of the potential a video game starring the two Thors would have.
Minor Spoilers for Thor: Love and Thunder ahead.

A Co-Op Thor Game Could Take Heavy Inspiration From Love and Thunder
In Thor: Love and Thunder, the God of Thunder continues to wield Stormbreaker, the axe he made during Avengers: Infinity War. While there is a running gag about Stormbreaker being jealous of Thor’s lingering love for Mjolnir, Thor uses the weapon well in combat, as the hero chains lightning between his foes with ease and fires beams of electricity from the top of his weapon. As for Jane Foster, she wields Thor’s original hammer Mjolnir in combat.
With Mjolnir destroyed during Thor: Ragnarok, Jane reconstructing the hammer through her transformation into Thor means that it has some new abilities the original Mjolnir lacked. In particular, it can rebreak when thrown, with the wielder sending all of its shards out to attack multiple targets at once or fill a single enemy full of holes. If a co-op Thor game featured these two heroes and their two distinct weapons, it could deliver in a big way from a gameplay standpoint, as each weapon could have its own combos and upgrade trees.
Like in Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2, co-op players could perform some Fusion Attacks on weakened enemies, with The Mighty Thor and the original Thor using Mjolnir and Stormbreaker together to finish off their foes. Further inspiration from Thor: Love and Thunder could be taken to give Thor Zeus’ Thunderbolt midway through the adventure, giving him some new moves and abilities similar to how Kratos received the Blades of Chaos partway through God of War 2018. For added depth, Jane could get another weapon at the midway point as well.
Just like with Thor: Love and Thunder, a powerful villain would be needed so that the two Thors have a legitimate threat to deal with, and Gorr The God Butcher is a perfect choice. While the game could take inspiration from Marvel’s Spider-Man’s Kingpin section, opening with a boss battle against another Thor villain like Loki, more can and should be done with Gorr outside the comics. While Marvel fans see him do very little butchering on the big screen, a full-length game could see him killing far more Gods, with some playable sections possibly even giving players brief control over Gorr and his powers.
By having two Thors with unique playstyles, a terrifying villain in Gorr, and the option for some flashy team-up moves, a co-op game based entirely on the Thor mythos could be exciting. While the God of War series may be providing gamers with one take on Norse mythology, the Marvel version of Thor’s stories is significantly different and deserves to be explored more in video games. Though Marvel’s Avengers features both Thor and Jane, a game that focuses solely on them, Asgard, and their enemies would be ideal.
