The Detroit Free Press reported late Thursday that owner Mike Ilitch planned to fire Ausmus at the end of the season.

In response, Avila said Ausmus, like all players and personnel within the organization, is being evaluated:
Ausmus, who was hired with no previous managerial experience, is 154-148 (.510) as the Tigers’ manager.
Detroit is in last place in the AL Central with a 64-76 record entering Friday’s play.
